"sit and reflect" (2019) by Laura GuildA

is an installation consisting of three chairs I presented for my graduation for the MA in Decoration at Brera Academy. "Webstuhl", "lost childhood" and "alto consumo" are building a trio which aims to encourage the viewer to think on the different social, evironmental and economic issuses which emerge in our society. Each chair has a story to tell and criticizes a different theme of our industrial system. In common they have the critique of its unethical business practice and labour exploitation.

"sit and reflect" (2020) by Laura GuildA

is an installation consisting of three chairs I presented at the exhibition "Bellezza e stupore in Villa" at Villa Giulia in Verbania (Lago Maggiore). "Webstuhl", "emergency" and "alto consumo" are building a trio which aims to encourage the viewer to think on the current situation of the sanitary emergency. The work "alto consumo" - a chair broken due to "high consumption" of luxury consumer goods refers now to the forced slowdown of the entire sector of the fashion and design industry, finally encouraged to rethink its frenetic mechanisms of production and marketing. The broken back of the chair "emergency" is repaired with an embroidery which represents a cardiogram of a restored normal heart rhythm and makes us think of the incredible job the hostpital staff has done lately. The warning tape which prevents us to sit down reminds on all the barriers and restrictions we lately see in public spaces and asks us to always keep a space between seats. The third chair named after the german word "Webstuhl" which translates to loom reflects on the sedentary lifestyle of the people who work at a loom. At the time of the forced lockdown, many people have rediscovered their love for handicraft such as weaving- a return to calm and manual labor in domestic space.
